Considering learning code?

So you’re not a “tech guy/girl” but the reality is that you should still learn basic coding skills.

Whether you’re in marketing, advertising, design, freelancing or writing, learning to code will give you an added advantage over others in your field.

Where to start?

If you are working with wordpress, email marketing templates or blogging, knowledge of HTML and CSS will go a long way. Learning HTML will help you with structure whereas CSS will help you with design or appearance. There are many benefits of being able to structure and design your own website, blog posts and email templates.

Firstly, you don’t have to waste time relying on someone else for quick fixes when you are under time pressure.

Secondly, your vision is your vision, it won’t be misinterpreted or watered down by someone else who doesn’t really understand it when you are doing it yourself.

Thirdly, you don’t have to use prescribed templates, you can make your emailer, blog post or webpage look exactly the way you want it to look.

Fourthly, you actually know what you are talking about, you don’t have to ask “can we do this?” you know you can and you know why you should – basically, you’re a genius.

And finally, you are obviously saving time and money by being able to do these things yourself.

HTML and CSS are the basics of coding, if you master these and want to continue your journey, the next steps would be learning Javascript and PHP to achieve more advanced and interactive functions.

Learning basic code is slowing turning into a skill that will be required in many professions, think of it like knowing how to use Excel. If you want to start learning but don’t know where to start, there are some really great online resources such as Codecademy and Udemy.
